Question:
Why wont our computer turn on?

Our computer started randomly turning off. It started getting really bad, sometimes there would be blue screens that said "MEMORY_MANAGEMENT" and "PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA". Then, it restarted and it said "Windows failed to load because the kernel is missing, or corrupt." Any further attempts to restart the computer failed, nothing but black screen. No BIOS screens, nothing. Our monitor keeps going to sleep, not detecting any signal DVI or VGA. All of this happened within a few short hours. The last major thing I remember doing was updating the graphics drivers to 197.13

Here was the specs the day before this happened:

Windows Vista Home Premium (x64)

300 Gigabyte Hard drive, (around 75gb free)

BFG NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT OC 1GB

3 gigabytes of memory. (1gb x1 2gb x1)

BFG 450-watt power supply

Things I've tried to fix this problem:

Removed graphics card, plugged monitor directly to motherboard, nothing

Replaced graphics card with a different one, nothing

Replaced Power Supply with the one that came with the computer, nothing

Replaced the hard drive with a new one, nothing

Removed the 1gb memory stick, nothing

Removed the 2gb memory stick, nothing

Removed ALL memory sticks, nothing (not even beep codes)

Removed DVD drive, nothing.

Everything you have described points me to the MB being fried. Check for any popped or leaking caps near the processor. My bet is you have both.

Last option for you is to run it to a local shop for diagnostics or replace the MB.

Bad news, you have likely also damaged the harddrive in this failure to the point a repair install is required.

OS reinstall and if that failed then you could've caused some ESD damage to your pc doing all those random removals. BTW having two different kinds of memory sticks is NOT good. It will only work with the lowest/weakest component the 1GB stick. In other words it doesn't stack. E.g. 1GB + 2GB does not mean 3GB

Also Vista 64 typically requires 4GB minimum.

Try removing the bios memory backup battery and discharging the board with the shipping jumper located near the battery or shorting the two battery connectors. Do this with the power cord unplugged. You should also make sure that the 2032 battery is still good, some computers will not start without it.

my best guess is that you didn't have enough RAM to run a memory-intensive application and the page file was set too small and it ran out of space.

It tried to find space, but it overwrote critical operating system files in the process.

upgrade to 4GB RAM and reinstall the OS

also increase the size of your page file

find your windows vista Cd, boot up from it, and choose Repair after choosing English. If that doesn't fix it, run a System Restore from there.
