a single anti virus program needs help with malware and other issues. be sure you stay defragged. try going to www,affordablecomp.com website-download page for the latest avg8, spybot, and adaware security programs. they're free. also update before use. go to microsoft to download explorer7 or if you're not go to sp3 for windows 6 xp, up date, and run those three security programs. be sure to turn off messenger to close up a hidden backdoor into your system. also go to microsoft downloads and download the latest version of defender, updates and the malicious software removal tool. these keep my system cleaned up and running smothly. i'm useing windows xp home edition too. try to avoid useing any of vista it's too problematic. be sure to check your computers listed hardware installed for your graphics card id, the see if you can dowload any newer drivers available from the manufacturers websight. if you have a printer, check out the latest drivers for your make/model.. also look for security patches when searching for updates. do a smart scan every day and full scans at least once a week.

check if you have some adware/malware on your system, may be there are some huge processes running in the background without your knowledge.

Download "Spybot Search and destroy" and run this to clean up your system of any malwares, also you could download ccleaner to clean up your registries and other unused shortcuts that could be slowing down you system.
