First i want to tell you the specs and things of my computer.

I have:
2gb ram
dual core 3.4ghz processor
8800gtx g card
3 fans

And i have 8 meg braodband

My question is what causes you computer to slow down?

When i first bought this computer it was very fast download wise, webpage loading and document opening.

Now everything has gone down.

I have a 300gb hard drive and i have 100gb lest.

I dont think that causes a computer to slow down. everything should be fine but its not.

I do have a anti virus software and spam cleaner but it don't make a difference.

Thanks

have you actuall done a speedtest to see the true speed your getting http://www.speedtest.net/

as above get CCleaner and analyze applications and scan the registry fixing all the errors(say yes to the backup option)

remove all your programs that you dont use via the control panel or via CCleaner.

Run Disk cleanup and Disk defragment from start>all programs>accessories>system tools>

p.s Theres a great improvement doing a clean install so if youve got OS disc/s backup all your important files and go for it!!

p.p.s also note down all your IP settings username/passwords etc and if youve not got any manufacturer discs(for drivers) for phones/scanners/printers etc save the drivers onto a flash drive or disc

Using a registry cleaner can clean up your computer and then make your computer faster,Why?the reason is that there may be some regsitry errors and remnant, corrupt files and temp files in your computer to cause "computer slow".

Everytime you install and uninstall software on your computer and surfing online you create junk in the computer registry.over time, the registry can grow to enormous proportions, especially if the various programs you've installed do not do a good job of deleting and/or updating it's Registry entries. You need to scan and clean your computer with registry cleaner to make it fast.Good Regisry Cleaner will improve your computer and Internet performance dramatically!

There are some comparison and review of TOP 5 registry cleaners.

http://www.make-computer-faster.com/

You can download and scan your computer for free.

Every once in a while you should open up the computers case and use a nice air can to blow out all the crap that builds up in the heat syncs and stuff. It also help, If you have windows that is, to go into the All Programs, Accessories, System Tools tabs and use the disk defragmenter and the disk cleanup tools. If its really bad and you havent done this in a long time it help to wipe out the computer completley and reboot it. A computer is like a car and after awhile I guess you can say it builds up "Sludge." Other then those you might want a computer guy to check it out.

There can be various reason for it. Couple of things to start with:-

1.) Clean up your HDD. Remove all tthe unwanted files available on the system.

2.) Remove all the unwanted application; if they are of no use to you. Normally people install it and leave it as it without uninstalling them.

3.) Run the disk defrag program

4.) Increase the page size (virtual memory of the OS)

After trying these you can look for the logs if delay is still there. Do let me know if the above does not solves your problem

Hit control-Alt-Delete this will open windows task manager.

Then go into View-Select Columns-Processes look at the VM sizes down the list this will tell you

how much VM each program is using.

Virtual Memory and your Ram work to gather, if the Ram is full it starts to swap to & from. Over time you can git a billup of programs running in the back ground for no reson, so if any of this programs are using to much VM they will afeced the proforments of you pc.

So if any of this programs don't need to be running close them down this will grately inprove your proformance.

If you don't what this programs to run ever time you start your pc make shore you remove them from you startup menu...

try giving your pc a good clean up ... uninstall an programs you dont use and no longer want.... and then defragment the pc.... any files that are out of place or need repairing this will most likely fix it... a defrag will help speed up the pc if any files are causing it to slow down. have you tried also going to 20 meg broadband. i recommend it :)

your PC spec can easily handle a super high speed internet connection so that's not the problem.

It's probably your ISP. Each ISP only has a certain amount of bandwith and most are oversubscribed due to greediness. It'll slow down especially during bust periods like evenings and especially evenings at the weekend.

You're not with Virgin Media by any chance?

Look for a site that tells you how to clean/maintain your computer. Especially in regard to Error Check, Defragmenting, msconfig, registry cleaner :)

Registry issues, startup programs, disk fragmentation, random junk. Download these two programs to fix the issues.

Having too much software starting up and spyware are usually the culprit.

Run ccleaner (download it) and Spybot S&D (download it) and that should help.
