It's very good. The only thing to point out is that the graphics card could be better

FIRST: From the previous poster :

"that guy who said ur video card could be better has to be some computer illiterate....512 MB video memory is more than enough ...its like max these days. a guy with 512 vid memory is still rare these days. whoever are sayin stuff that the computer could be improved blah blah blah are some dumb fools who just want to play as if they know a lot....dont worry abt it everything there is a lotttt u have more than u even need ....u dont even need 1 GB RAM in todays world to work fast and u have 4 GB RAM"

Fact:

Nvidia 8800 GTS, GTX, ULTRA : 640, 784MB

ATi X2900XT 1000MB

Fact:

The GTS 640 has been out since last year, so sorry '512' is outdated, signifigantly.

Don't need 1gig of ram?

Fact:

The average modern game uses on average 1.2 - 1.4 gigs of physical RAM, and your OS consumes about 100-300 MB depending on how you've set it up. That's suggesting under full load, your system is requiring upwards of 1.5gigs. 2gigs is very common standard atm, and is just about as close as you want to cut it. 4gigs is unncessary, even in Vista.

Fact:

You cannot run in 1T command rate mode with all four DIMM slots filled. You'd be faster running 2gigs in 1T rate in 2 DIMM slots.

Think you're the one that needs to stop talking cause it's a lot of as you say 'blah blah.'

Is the computer good?

Yes and No.

The first problem, is that it's a HP. It's a pre-packaged computer, based on "OEM"/manufacturer parts. These parts are locked on certain levels meaning they have limited capabilities. Most commonly it's the motherboard, and while you may never adjust, tinker or customize your computer, if you should ever need to for repair issues, you would be sorely limited in doing so.

Good things:

Processor

Ram

Hard Disk Drive

DVD Drive

Bad things:

Vista: Right now, for the most part and most people, it's not worth the hassles it brings. At the end of this year, the functions and purpose of Vista will be more effective. For now, XP is still on top, at least for Windows OS'

GPU/graphics card. The fortunate thing is, it's not an on-board/integrated chip. The bad thing is, that it's pretty weak compared to it's big brothers.

Norton Security. Memory hog, limited performance/protection and not worth paying for.

Keyboard/Mouse. Junk

Neutral things:

LAN PCI card

DVD ROM

Memory Card/USB

Tuner

Integrated sound

Microsoft Works

22inch monitor(The MS response time isn't so great, but it's not terrible either; color spectrum is a bit low, but you may not notice on average).

For $1700 you could build or have someone build you a better computer from the ground up, with money left over.

AND, maybe even more importantly, it wouldn't be locked. All the components would be retail, which means they are full functional.

Simply Awesome.

But My Suggestion:-

1.) Instead Of Norton, You Take Quick Heal, As It Is Recognised By MS And Once Installed, You Don't Have To Re-Register After 15 Months Or Anything.

2.) Because Of Such High Standards, There Is A Chance Of Over Heating, So Therefore, You May Want To Install A Water Cooler In Your CPU Cabinet, As It Will Keep Your PC Cool.

Rest, All Is Good, But Believe me, Take My Suggestion, And It Will Surely Give You Results, If You Don't Want, Then Don't Go For Quick Heal, But For Saving Your PC From Burning And Smelling Like It's On Fire, Get A Water Cooler.

You Will Get It From An Authorized Dealer, In A Big City Like LA, NY, SF, Etc. But It Is Difficult To Get It Locally.

first of all, Vista.. I believed will be undergoing a lot of patches in the near future. Its too young to say that its the best OS available yet but you cant deny the fact that it has great features aside from its awesome AERO which was met by your memory requirement as well as the processor requirement. Although if I were you, I would try overclocking that and getting a nice thermal cooler or whatever is better. Yeah!!! Over clock to your heart's content! TV tuner is great to have. And btw, you forgot to mention there the FSB of your processor... even if you have a great amount of processor speed if your FSB is not that much its useless, you'll just have a bottleneck issue.

well thats a realli good pc u have set up there. excellent specs man. that guy who said ur video card could be better has to be some computer illiterate....512 MB video memory is more than enough ...its like max these days. a guy with 512 vid memory is still rare these days. whoever are sayin stuff that the computer could be improved blah blah blah are some dumb fools who just want to play as if they know a lot....dont worry abt it everything there is a lotttt u have more than u even need ....u dont even need 1 GB RAM in todays world to work fast and u have 4 GB RAM. and the guy who said norton isnt good and its just trial etc etc ....didnt he read u wrote 15 mths in brackets?? dumb fools ....anwyays listen man that computer is super powerful that u set up there. dont worry wit these guys. only one thing abt concern is ur USB ports. 2 USB ports are way too little for a desktop. i have a laptop and have 4 USB ports on it so only there is one problem u shud be trying to solve. other to that everything is dam powerful man.

yeah, thats a great configuration for these days standard but i would suggest getting the anti-virus NOD32 because it has been proven to be better than Norton.

also getting a better mouse and keyboard set would be good such as the Logitech V150 which is a great mouse mainly due to there balanced sensitivity and durability, and if you can spare the money, get a Logitech G15 keyboard because it has a built in lcd screen that you can use to view lyrics on music your listening to and also tells you what track your playing on your windows media player.

i would also suggest some surround speaker systems with a sub woofer because they are dramticly better than normal speakers.

i also wouldnt suggest getting vista yet because not many updates for it havent been released and it is a bit more prone to spyware and glitches. But i would certainly suggest you get it after a few more months :D

It's pricey. But good. If you really want good-go with Mac OSX. Forget Windows.
