http://www.crucial.com/index.asp Scroll down to the blue "Scan My System" button. This will tell you your motherboard type, as well as the maximum grade and amount of RAM your motherboard can support. Takes only a few moments, and is a wonderful tool.

On the System properties window ( Windows key + Pause/Break key at the same time)you will find the speed of the memory e.g.,100 MHz, 200Mhz.. Multiple that by 8 as in the previous message and that will tell you the type of the memory you have.

Your manual may be lost, but often manufacturers maintain digitized versions online. Check out your manufacturers website. Also, usually it is not recommendable to change the 'type' of memory you are using... Just add more. ^_^

What you should do is find some store such as bestbuy or a store that has that computer on sale and ask them. If you tell me the computer I could find it for you.

266MHz x 8 = 2128 or PC2100
333MHz x 8 = 2664 or PC2600
400MHz x 8 = 3200 or PC3200
hope this helps.
