my sempron 3000+ gets almost the same score as the highest amd 64 single core processor there is?

my sempron 3000+ scores a passmark rating of 410, the amd 64 3800+ scores 559, and the amd 64 4000 + scores 590 now the highest amd 64 single core processor is the amd 64 4000+ and that's the performance difference between the two the performance differrence between the two is only 180 and the sempron 3000+ is considred a low end processor while the amd 64 4000+ is considered a mid to high end processor with only a 180 performance difference and the sempron is used for every day tasks and the 64 is used for hard core gaming with only that much performance difference then that means there is not so much performance difference between the single core 64's and the sempron's after all then why do people say sempron is bad i mean today's benchmark proved to me that the 64 is no greater than the sempron

Semprons are ridiculously bad, Athlon 64's are bad.

Both of them use the Socket 939 which is not in production anymore.

You want either

AM2 processors (Athlon X2 / Phenom)

AM2+ (Phenom II Higher End)

AM3 (Phenom II Lower End)

Socket 939 are discontinued, out of the question, cores.

AM2 processors are definitely low to mid range cores.

AM2+ and AM3 are mid to high range cores

What score are you talking about? 3dmark vantage, saundra lite, what are you talking about? A sempron should never be used for gaming unless it's like pacman or something. If you really want to play somewhat decent then get like an athlon dual core that's at least 2.6 GHz fast. If you really want to play hard, get an Intel i7. I doubt that's what you want though because you sound clueless so I doubt you're going to spend hundreds of dollars on just a CPU. Also, 64 doesn't mean anything except it works with a 64 bit operating system so if you have a 32 bit operating system which you most likely do, you will not see any improvement in performance.

Actually, the AMD 64 4000+ is considered a low-end processor as well and is not used for "hard-core gaming"

You need a dualcore or better to see a real performance difference.

i concur.

how about getting an intel quad-core processor-then u'd get real performance!
