Above is the link to my question, but the thing is, i am using a 3 1/2 year old Sony Vaio PCV-V1, which is quite nice, but takes bout 7 minutes to fully start up, and only has 480 MB of Ram, and the whole computer is completely un-upgradeable,

So Do I get a shiny new iMac when I have the money, (£800, 20"), Or do I get a new PC, Screen, Mouse, keyboard and Photoshop Package? (which should cost about the same)

Note, my PC was given to me and it had Photoshop installed by the previous owners, I dont have the disk anymore

Lot of interesting answers to your previous question. It comes down to reliability and tech support. The people who like modifying their computers and upgrading them and fooling with BIOS, and like identifying and trashing their viruses, will get a PC. Macs are top rated for tech support (you don't get a techie reading from a script who has English as their third language). I serviced computers in a school district for 10 years, in that time I never had a Mac with a virus and I never had a Mac that I couldn't fix by putting in a new hard drive or reinstalling the software (other than the coffee spilled in a keyboard). In those ten years, just my school alone had over 250 Windows computers so trashed with viruses, malware and adware, that the computers had to have the hard drives erased and all the software reinstalled. Get an iMac and get Photoshop Elements and be happy. You can do the work and not worry about daily virus updates and daily virus scans.

For years, I did Tech help for homestead windows-based computers. i exchange into so ill of each thing crashing (blue reveal of loss of existence) and how we'd could re-image the workstations. 5 years in the past, i offered my first Mac and that i've got under no circumstances appeared returned. i could not see the way it would desire to be greater handy to apply than a homestead windows computing device, yet as quickly as i all started utilising it, it exchange into obvious that the Mac is a greater effective gadget. besides the shown fact that, they seem to be somewhat greater costly than many computers, so because it particularly is a few thing to contemplate ... yet a guy or woman gets what they pay for. i don't get viruses or secret agent ware issues. My updates deploy easily and that i'm under no circumstances caught working incompatible variations of application. The Intel Macs are "known", working homestead windows apps too. Am I pleased with my Mac? surely. could i flow returned to utilising a homestead windows computing device? not if I had a call!

Get the iMac. You can find Photoshop for free if you know where to look. The iMac comes with all the same hardware as the new PC anyway.

Buy whatever platform runs the software you are using. The Macs with the intel cpus can run a virtual drive with XP on it giving you the flexibility of running both Apple and PC programs. I have a Mac but I'm a gamer so I have it sitting in its box. Some software is very expensive so I suggest you not only consider which platform to get but which one will run the software you will be using as well as the cost of buying new software for each one. Also investigate programs like "Parallels" which will give you the best of both worlds.

I would by a new PC unless you need it to be mobile then a laptop/notebook would be the way to go.

for the money you would get a faster bigger PC then the later and I prefer good old windows as I find it a lot easier than iMac, but iMac have there place, some like it some hate it, this is down to you in the end, if you haven't used one I would have a good look first.
