I'm currently using a dual-core processor and it's fast enough. But if you're going for heavy video and picture editing , then i suggest get an i-5 or i-7 processor.

Well and if you're going to upgrade your processor , you have to do the same for the motherboard too. Get a better graphic card and maybe buy a 2GB Ram , 1GB seems too little. If you're using a windows xp then I guess you can stay with 1GB , but if you're on Vista or Windows 7 , better get a 2GB Ram minimum. Well , Good luck.

Okay, I've seen netbooks with better performance characteristics. I can see why you want to upgrade. You're not the first person to ask this question, turns out I had a link to the supported CPUs. Pretty much any AMD processor of 95W or less is on this list: http://support.asus.com/cpusupport/list.aspx?SLanguage=en&m=M2N68-AM%20SE2&p=1

Hint: upgrade your BIOS BEFORE swapping cpus to make sure your new CPU is recognized.

AMD and Intel use different sockets for their processors. You can't upgrade from an AMD to an Intel cpu (or vice versa) without also swapping out the motherboard.

How sure are you that the PS/2 port isn't working? The PS/2 device must be plugged in before power is turned on to the PC - it's not hot-pluggable like USB devices. Your USB keyboard solution makes perfect sense to me.

It is socket Socket AM2, so you are better off buy changing motherboard to LGA1155 (Sandy Bridge) and buy i5-2500. Of course you need to change RAM and buy GPU if you dont want to use Intel HD. And preferably change OS to 64-bit so you can get more than 2.99GB RAM.

I would check out some of the older Core i5 chips from Intel.
