I have a dvd-ram drive that works fine for listening and burning cd's. My problem is that I bought a pc-dvd game and my dvd drive won't read it. It spins and when I try to run it manually, the error message says "please insert disk". I have updated my drivers. My computer specs should easily play this game.
Is it possible that my driver has worn to a point that it would read cd's but not dvd's.
And yes, I definitely have a dvd drive.

yes it is possible to have a dvd drive that "won't play dvd's" if you don't have the software to read the dvds. You can go to http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ and download this software for free and it plays everything. If however you still can't read dvd's then it could be a mechanical problem in your drive itself.

Sure.

A DVD drive will read both DVDs and CDs. (backwards compatible)

A CD drive will NOT read a DVD.

In your case, bad DVD or dirty laser.

Clean the read head on the DVD.

If no-go, bring it back or use it as a coaster.
