I just bought a standard CD/DVD drive for my computer I just installed it.

I put a blank DVD in and nothing is happening. My computer recognizes the drive all right but it says it's empty when I put something in it.

Here is the one I bought: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827118031

It didn't come with a sata cable so I just snatched an old (But working) sata 1.5gb/s out of an old computer.

It says the driver is up to date so what could possibly be wrong? It opens up, closes, makes noises but never revs up like like other drive that have discs in them... help :(

It sounds like it's broken. I can't tell you for sure because I've never experienced this problem.

Try removing it from the device manager and rebooting.

Hello friend !!!! your problem with the DVD drive is seems like the internal firmware problem, firmware is installed internally for that purpose if u have warranty of the device then go to the service station of the related company they will fix it or they will replace your device but attention that do not open the optical device yourself because it voids the warranty and also go in the device manager and click on the option scan for hardware changes in some cases it detects the device!!! and also try to change SATA cable connected to device and try to resettle it on another SATA interface in the motherboard !!! hope these tricks will help you !!!! Good Luck !!!!
