Question:
How do I delete Windows XP and format the local disk it's on if I have 2 copies of Windows XP installed?

I have 2 partitions: Partition F: and Partition C:.

Each has its own copy of Windows Xp Pro installed but I only want to keep the one in Parition F:. So basically what I want to do is delete Windows XP on parition C: / format it, and just have 1 single partition (merging C: with F:).

I tried formatting C: via right clicking it and selecting "format" but right at the end of the format I get a message telling me "Windows was unable to format..." with no explanation.

Obviously the Windows XP CD wouldn't help because I'd have to install a new version of Windows as it doesn't allow you to just format.

you cant merge ur drives without formatting the secondary partitions ie C,D and F:. If u jus wan to delete the files jus remove them from the drive. Also dont format C drive if u do not plan to reinstall OS bcoz mostly C drive contains the boot information w/o which system wont boot up.

Without using a paid third-party tool like Acronis Disk Director you can boot your system with the free Ultimate Boot CD and use one of the partition tools in there to trash the partition you don't want.

I don't believe it's possible to merge partitions using Windows, I've always used Acronis or Partition Magic.

And whatever you, make a backup of the system before altering partitions!

Start deleting all the important system stuff (basiclly everything), till it craps up...than re-install windows XP. I did that and it worked!

And if it's not on the net (and you need to register it...zz...),

put the reg thingy down and press (start menu button)+(u), it could be y (one of those).

Then you can get in as if it was the internet by clicking on the link it gives.
