Ive been trying to decide which setup would end up in the best performance overall. Some things that i am quite interested in, is with overclocking capabilities, abilities, smoothness, heat, and of course just overall performance.

Ive heard that the 480s run far hotter then the ATI cards which is fine, but it sounds as if that would also mean they are able to be overclocked less than the ATI cards. In any case, i would be using a waterblocked setup so that they would be able to be clocked higher while staying cool.

Another thing that ive seen to find is that 3 5870s actually out perform 2 5970s in many cases, and they can more easily be clocked to even exceed the 5970s speed. Which im not sure is right.

Then the last thing is that im curious as to whether the nVidia tesselation, physX, and 3D vision are worth it. I have heard about ATI now allowing 3rd party 3D which makes for more available products and better but im not sure how it compares.

The last thing that i have heard is that the ATI cards have been known to have a great more deal of microstuttering which has been known to make it hard to deal with in game.

yes the 480's run really hot, if your overclocked which im guessing you are with that kind of money, i would not recommend it. also the one 480 might make too much heat and fry the second 480.

i have read the same thing about the 5870's about the overclocking and yes definately the 3 will beat the 2 5970's

tesselation is worth it i cannot seem to find the link, but google around for tesselation and the game heaven, there is this dragon that looks totally incredibly awesome with tesselation, it is definately the way of the future.

i dont know about the microstuttering but i've never had a problem with ati cards. own an nvidia now but going back to ati.

here is a tip.

in dec/jan ati is going to be renamed to amd

and new video cards are comming out the 6xxx series

google

ati 6xxx

needless to say, nvidia is going to go SPLAT once again.

also google

lga2011 u might find that interesting, new cpu's new motherboards

usb 3.0 sata 3.0, intels new processor will also have some sort of graphics encoding built into it too which is supposed to help video cards out.

the cores will be 4/6/8/12

why would you buy so many cards when a 5970 can max anything out in eyeinfinity?

so can the 5870

so can the 480

they are all very powerful cards having so many of them is not necessary especially since crossfire and SLi are both slightly flawed

if i were you i would personally buy none of these setups and not because im not a huge fan of running multi GPU setups but for one big reason.

next month ATi are going to be announcing their 6000 series graphics cards, and then in november they are going to begin shipping them

these cards will tessalate better and rumors of them having 3D support or atleast getting 3D support at some point

also physx doesnt get you that much, it takes some load off the processor and has features like bullet physx meaning on games that actually support it when you fire your weapon the bullet will move due to wind etc. but oh wait COD 4 did that on one of the missions with the processor?.

basically games still rely alot more on the processor than nvidea physx

Get the 2 x 5970's

P.S.

Micro stuttering only acures between FPS 21 and 24

Keep it above 30 (shouldn't be hard) and you wont have problems, the Chips really really are the best.

There is one downside to ATi, Their Drivers and software.... Nvidia is so much better on that front.

they both have their ups and downs but I think hardware is more important then software when it comes to GPU's

You know the reason that the 5870's clock higher then the 5970's is because each 5970 is basically 2 x 5870 chips on a single board, they heat each other because the chips are way to close to each other, compared to 2 x 5870's that have at-least 1 inch of complete metelless space for air between each other.

2 ATI 5970s is better there are no too many games that use nVidia tessellation

physX and 3D vision.Nvidia have 3D vision and ATI has Eyefinity only one thing

ATi does not have that is physX but there are only 5 or 6 games that use physX

that why physX is not a problem.nVidia tessellation is not give any advantage to nvidia

cards u can see this in this web

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/geforce-gtx-480,2585-4.html

3 5870s can never beat 2 5970s

i hope this will help

ATI isn't crap, and its greater inexpensive via fact maximum folk think of nVidia is greater useful, so which you may pay for the style call. yet that may not continually the case. ATI has been very sucky like a million.5 years in the past, yet they have caughten up very at present, with their launch of the useful 4870 X2. i'm with ATI yet thats in basic terms me. in any case, back on your question. I say the 4850 is swifter via fact in case you analyze the reminiscence bandwith, the 9800GTX is 70.4GB in line with 2nd, dealing with the 4850s 147GB in line with 2nd. The 9800GTX does have a 50MHz greater center clock, and a 14MHz greater reminiscence clock, yet word that the 4850 has 800 circulate processors, possessing the 9800GTXs 128. you may seem at benchmarks in spite of the shown fact that this is amazingly uncommon you notice 2 of them an identical, they the two lean in direction of nVidia or ATI. In end, the version relatively isn't that lots, they are the two super enjoying cards, and there'll in undemanding terms be around a 4-5 FPS difference in maximum video games.
