When I turn on my computer, the computer makes 6 long beeps and nothing appears on the screen. This is the second time this has happened. The first time happened after I had the blue screen of death and after that it restarted successfully, but after 20 minutes when I was browsing the internet, the screen went black and it started to beep 6 times. I cleaned it and it worked but after 3 weeks it had the same problem again. Is there a ram/motherboard problem?

Also, will there be any chance of the hard drive going corrupt and data loss? Please help, I have lots of files on there and it would be a disaster to lose them all.

Thanks

Well seeing that you were using the internet at the time

and the only one that gives 6 beeps is the AMI BIOS.

The error is a "8042 Gate A20 Failure".

The description is "Unable to switch to protected mode"

Beep codes variety by utilising motherboard or distributors... often beep codes are related to reminiscence errors (undesirable reminiscence, no longer appropriate seated in sockets, etc.) different beep codes additionally point out undesirable video card. The gadget won't beep if the CPU is undesirable, because it incredibly is the only doing the beeping with the aid of the BIOS. If the gadget keeps booting ok after the beep, then sure, it incredibly is likely a undesirable CMOS battery.

If it's an AMI (American Megatrends) bios .....

6 beeps - Bad CPU or Motherboard

For Phoenix bios you will need to determine exactly how the beeps are spaced

All ways sound none of it is good news

Be sure your CPU is fully inserted into its socket. Or clean inside of cabinet and mainly the CPU fan!!

Reseat your RAM, I mean remove them from the socket and reinsert them properly and Try pulling the CMOS battery for 10 seconds or so, then reseat it.
