I just purchased an Intel Core i7 -950. I am upgrading from a 3 year old core 2 quad system. I want a motherboard that supports RAID. I want to be able to upgrade to a Intel i7 Extreme Edition later. I want to be sure that I will be able to make that upgrade. Please advice me as to how to choose the best motherboard for this. Does every Core i7 use the same connection: 1344 Socket and X58 chipset.
Thanks,
Bruce

X58 / Core i7 CPUs require socket 1366. You can use ANY of these boards for the i7 950: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007627%20600007887&IsNodeId=1&bop=And&Order=PRICED&PageSize=100

If you're on a budget of $200-$250, then I would recommend the ASUS X58 Sabertooth, ASUS P6X58D-E, or Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R. If $250-$300, then the EVGA X58 FTW3, or ASUS Rampage III Formula. And for anything over $300, then definitely the ASUS Rampage III Extreme, or EVGA X58 Classified3. Top quality boards.

Check out http://www.newegg.com and http://www.tigerdirect.com and see what socket the Core i7 -950 CPU takes and if it's the same as what the i7 Extreme Edition will use. If they fit into different sockets, you need different motherboards.
