Hi all i have a 2yrs old packard bell desktop and the other day it blew up alot of smoke comes from the back and i think it may be the powersupply... I took it to PC world (Store where i bought it) and they wouldn't do anything because the warranty's up. Any suggestions here? I heard Packard Bell went bankrupt and theres no contact for them is this true??? If not anyone have a number (UK) for them i cant find any online!

if your lucky it will be a standard tower unti sized power supply..in which case a noirmal power supply from any pc shop will set you back about £20...

if your not lucky and you bought a special packard bell system..which has a sylised case and therefore special parts for it then you can probably hunt down a supplier of compatible power supplies on the internet....

however when a power supply goes bang it can sometimes cause damage elsewhere in your system....so swap your supply out..then cross your fingers ;)

If it's gone like that it's because you never cleaned its dusty insides out. You never know, it may have wrecked the motherboard (main board where everything plugs in), power supply (can't be fixed, can be replaced for between £30 - £80), hard disk (where all your data goes) or even the processor (the bit that does the legwork) as well a whole multitude of other parts.

You could always take it to PC World or an alternative and ask for it to be repaired and shell out for parts, or you could look at it yourself and suss out what bits need replacing, or you could just scrap it and buy a new PC.

For in-depth help, try searching forums for how to test parts and replace stuff.

I can build PCs and could help you through email or MSN if you wish?

Packard Bell is (amazingly) still in business.

Their computers are known for their particularly low build quality; I've never heard of a happy PB owner.

There does seem to be a site you can access online but you need a serial number to gain support so I couldn't go any further for you. On Google. support.PackardBell.com/uk
