Open Activity Monitor that's in your Utilities folder. Choose CPU and run All Processes from the drop down menu.

There is a widget you can download that tells you everything about your Mac (CPU usage, Memory Usage, DIsk Space, Temperature of all components etc) called iStat.

You can find it at iSlayer.com

There is a program already on your Mac to do this. Go to HD/Applications/Utilities/Activity Monitor. Double click on that. You can have different viewing options, tables/graphs etc.

Hope it helps

running "top" from a Terminal window is one way. You can also use the Activity Monitor.
