i have a windows 7 desktop computer, a while ago i had a new blu-ray drive added to my computer, so now i have a dvd drive and a blu-ray drive.....the computer shop who upgraded my computer and added the blu-ray drive also installed cyberlink power DVD media suite software.

but the problem is, i just recently tried to play a blu-ray film in the new blu-ray drive....and cyberlink media suite won't play the blu-ray disc? its telling me my computer is not compatible? - when i have a brand new blu-ray drive installed.

i have the cyberlink power dvd software installation disc, the computer shop installed cyberlink for me.

so i dont know what to do, i tried playing the blu-ray disc with VLC player but VLC wouldn't play the blu-ray film either, it gave me an error message...saying that my version of VLC is an outdated version....could that be the issue why vlc won't play the blu-ray?

anyway, can anyone help me what to do about this problem? how can i get VLC or cyberlink power dvd 12 to play my blu-ray film?

if none of those software will play the blu-ray disc, what software with play my new blu-ray film in my new blu-ray drive?

why am i encountering this problem?

Have you tried using windows media player? Power DVD plays DVDs, the clue is in the name. VLC is great and if you like it perhaps you should try updating the version you have. However in WIN 10 i would use the default media player as it plays most types of files.

I use Blu-Ray player from Amazon but I have it on a Win 7 machine. It is supposed to work with Win 10, but who knows? MS keeps goofing up 10 so nothing much works.

You are going to need some Blu-Ray software... Here is a good article from Cnet https://www.cnet.com/how-to/how-to-watch-dvds-for-free-in-windows-10/

Basically you need to try Leawo Blu-ray Player. (It supports DVDs as well, meaning you can skip VLC.) It's a pretty basic player, and rest assured Leawo will try to sell you its other software products at every turn. But if you're looking for a free Blu-ray player that supports pretty much all versions of Windows, this is the one. http://www.leawo.com/blu-ray-player/

Since you have windows 7 (UPGRADE is recommended these days) you can also try the old method written here... https://lifehacker.com/5806252/how-can-i-play-blu-ray-discs-on-my-computer

It would help to know the exact error message you got.

In my experience, trying to play Blu-Ray movies on a PC is problematic. I had a software that came with my Blu-Ray drive tell me that I have to update to a newer version of that software. After 3 sequential updates, it tells me that I have a basic version of the software and need to buy the full version to play that specific movie.

And VLC will not play copy-protected Blu-Ray movies. Pretty much all Blu-Ray movies you buy from a store are copy-protected and will not work under VLC. So it doesn't have to do with the fact that your VLC is outdated.

Did you fully update your Cyberlink Suite? If it is like mine, it will ask you to update a few times and then tell you that you need to pay for the full version.
