This is my first time building a computer. I just finished putting my computer together (no OS yet) and I get this after I finish configuring the BIOS page:

NVIDIA Boot Agent 249.0542
Copyright © 2001-2005 NVIDIA Corporation
Copyright © 1997-2000 Intel Corporation
PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
PXE-MOF: Exiting NVIDIA Boot Agent
DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER

I have no clue what it exactly means or what to do now!

System specs if needed:

EVGA Nforce 780i SLI Motherboard
EVGA GeForce 280 GTX
Intel Core 2 Quad CPU 2.83GHz
4GB DDR2 800MHz RAM
Standard CD/DVD
Western Digital 300GB HD 10,000rpm

Are you getting this when you try to install the operating system? If so, check the cables and master/slave/cable select jumpers for your hard drive and CD/DVD drive. Also, double check the boot order in BIOS to be sure the media (presumably the DVD/CD drive) comes before the hard drive. Or, use the menu to select a boot device, if your BIOS has that feature.

If you have not tried to install an O/S, ignore that error.

DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER

that message is just trying to tell you that it cannot find the copy of windows that you have not installed yet.

put in your windows disk and install it and all will be fine.

as for the "Media test failure, check cable" that may indicate that one of the drive cables is not connected properly or that it is not working at all.

make sure that they are seated tightly in the motherboard and the back of the drive or try swapping them out for other leads untill the message no longer displays.

if you change all the cables over and still have the message then one of the drives is the source of the fault message and will need to be changed over.

i had the same issue a few builds ago with the ide lead for a floppy drive and it took a bit of mucking around to remove the issue but it had to be done.

positioned 'demanding rigidity C:' in the previous 'community' contained in the boot order (If the demanding rigidity does not seem contained in the boot order, it really is why the PXE community boot brokers commence) be conscious : verify that the demanding rigidity is taken into consideration contained in the BIOS setup reason: PXE (pronounce Pixie) is an agent used besides on to the community it is making use of the DHCP protocol to localise a server the position a useless ringer for the OS is placed as a thanks to PXE boot press F12 at startup or configure the boot order in BIOS to demonstrate 'community' in the previous 'demanding rigidity C:' If, for any reason, the demanding rigidity isn't considered the computer will attempt besides on the community controller. that's led to by the demanding rigidity is lacking, unplugged or failed Is the demanding rigidity a detachable, if so, remove it and reinsert it. also verify contained in the bios for the ide configuration demonstrate screen, is the demanding rigidity being detected and exhibiting the right length

Could be that hard drive. (VelociRaptor) My buddy bought two and couldn't get his system to boot with one of them either. Try a different hard drive and see if that works. If it does, get a new drive.

you have no OS.. so no bootable disk.

you gotta install your OS and get your hard drive formatted and configured
