Can a Asus M2A-VM board support the new 6 Core processor?

I have the latest BIOS version, and could not find anywhere that would give me this answer. Probably because the processor's too new. I would think it should being that it's a Phenom II, but want to know if anyone's done it with this board.

You have an AM2 socket, which doesn't accomodate the newer AM3 sockets.



A motherboard upgrade will be neccesarry. Look for AM3 socketed motherboards if you want to use the new Phenom 2 hex core CPU's.

You will also have to transition to DDR3 RAM if using AM3 motherboards. Sell off your DDR2 sticks on eBay, you should be able to recoup $60 or so.



You could go with a AM2+ socket motherboard to save $10 or so but they are behind the curve in terms of tech and are already getting outdated. I don't recommend AM2+ at this stage.
