It used to be able to handle a lot of tabs at the same time but lately it can barely handle an online conversation combined with a mutual viewing of a You Tube video without crashing with the inevitable, doom laden message - 'Runtime error....'

I feel like smashing my mouse it is happening so frequently of late.

Can anyone help?

Anyone know why it's losing it's memory - is it old age?

You probably just need to do a little cleanup. If you're using XP, goto Start- Programs- Accessories- System Tools. In that menu, you'll see Disk Cleanup; select that, then when it opens, the drive you want cleaned (usually c:). Click OK and let it figure it out much space you can regain, then run it to dump your temp files and stuff. It'll take a while. Disk Defragmenter is in that same System Tools menu. Run that after Disk Cleanup (just hit the Defrag button, then go away for a while) to get the file system in order. Last thing to check: goto Start- Programs- Accessories- Windows Explorer, click the + sign next to MY Computer and right-click the "c:" icon. Click on Properties at the bottom of that menu and bring up the pie chart. If you have less than 10% of your hard drive space left, then you'll want to start archiving and moving your older files (movies you haven't watched in a while, old articles, etc.) to CD or DVD, or a different drive internal or external to free up room for the swap files created by Windows and programs like Word. That will also boost performance.

The ram you have in that old computer is out of date and is no longer produced. Though you may find a computer repair shop that has a some kicking around. The memory in your computer is either a 32 pin or a 73 pin RAM. We have some here at the shop. We save them from scraping old computers. They must be installed by identical pairs or they do not work right. Also those old motherboards only allow you to put so much ram to them. Good luck...

For the run time errors, there are many causes, so there hasn't been a set solution. Sometimes you have to reinstall the system. But the most common reason for this is that there appears problems in the registry. What you can do is to use a software which can fix the registry errors. I think you can use this program http://www.1Click-Optimize-Pc.com. I know it can not only repair many registry errors, but also can clean up the junk things in the registry, so the computer can keep fast. I think your old pc needs it. I am using this program to keep my pc in good condition. I hope it can help you.
