Check www.newegg.com for cheap prices on an AMD processor. I would say spend about $150 US for the best bang for the buck, any more than that and you're wasting money on a processor that won't be useful for you. Make sure it's a quad core, and one that your mobo supports (AM, AM2, AM2+ being the three that you're probably going to be seeing).

Then you can upgrade your ram to 4 gigs if you don't already have that, it will make a noticeable difference and will only run you about $40-$50 US.

Not a bad choice at all. AMD do have a very good triple core out at the moment though (it overclocks really well).

Look at: AMD Phenom II tri core 720 2.8GHz.

It is still relatively cheap and can be made to run at 3.0GHz+ while still running at acceptable temperatures.

If you cant get this though then sure, go for the one you have up there.
