If you can't give us the motherboard name we can't tell know what PCI(-E) slots are available. If your board only has one (which it looks like your diag declared) and it's filled with a sound card or network card, you're out of luck. It also doesn't say which variant it is (x16, 2.0 x16, etc.). Additionally, without knowing your PSU wattage we also can't recommend something that would otherwise overload your system. Case size and cooling availability also play a factor in even determining if you can upgrade your graphics card.

Now for the bad news - The K-8 series Athlon 64 released in 3 versions, two being single core and the X2 being the dual core. I'm thinking (again, by your diagnostic post) that yours is the single core. So your processor isn't powerful enough to run the game. Honestly, you need more RAM too. 1 GB does not cut it for running a heavy (Vista / 7) operating system, let alone light gaming (while Vindictus is fairly light gaming, render-wise).

Really, all I can give you are the minimum specifications required by the game;

OS: Windows XP or higher

Processor: Dual Core

Memory: 1 GB

Hard Disk Space: 10+ GB

Video Card: NVIDIA® GeForce® 7600

DirectX®: 9.0c

Sound: 16 bit sound card

and recommended;

OS: Windows XP or higher

Processor: Intel® Core™ i3 540, ® Phenom™ II X4

Memory: 2 GB

Hard Disk Space: 10+ GB

Video Card: NVIDIA® GeForce® GTS 250, ATI Radeon™ HD 4850

DirectX®: 9.0c

Sound: 16 bit sound card

Since you're scraping the bottom of the barrel to clear the minimum specs, any PCI-E x16 card you can find would do. Unfortunately, the cheapest one I could find on newegg was $100. Maybe you can find one cheaper.

Honestly though, you are much better off just upgrading your computer. You don't need a beast, but the Llano series of AMD processors come with onboard graphics that will easily play this game. You can pick them up for $60, and usually find a corresponding mATX motherboard for around $40. So for the same price of an outdated videocard, you just gave your CPU a complete overhaul. Toss in 4gb of RAM for $20 and find someone to install it for you, and you can play your game at max settings.

we don't need to know all that information.

your compaq presario dates back to 2005 which is really out of date. You can upgrade it with an out of date card if that makes you happy but it won't cause you probably wouldn't be able to play vindictus anyway.

HP/compaq, DELL, etc computers that you get in a electronic store isn't going to last you long. 2-3 years top playing the latest games on medium setting. Unless you fork over $1500 you aren't going to be enjoying modern day games with the highest settings with good framerates.

however, you can build a pc that will last you 5 years playing the latest games on high-ultra setting for about $850.

That is a very old, dinosaur PC.

That AMD Athlon 64 3500+ is an ancient single core processor, launched in June 2004...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_AMD_Athlon_64_microprocessors#Athlon_64

That very low end processor will bottleneck almost any modern graphics card.

Upgrading that old piece of crap is a waste of money in my opinion, but hey, it's your money....

Time to build or buy a new PC.
