Latency it time it take to process information. I'm not sure how to check the latency.... You may find it under start, programs, accessories, system tools, system information..... Look for Mhz on the ram the higher it is the better..... latency is a term for delay..... Which the lower it is the better. I'm not sure if ram actually has a latency rating other than low or high latency ram. But any how you should have a mhz rating and the higher it is the better. there is no way to increase it other than to get different ram.

Generally speaking, latency is a measurement of the time it takes for two pieces of computer hardware to communicate, be it a computer and a server on the internet ("lag" in gaming terms) or your RAM memory controller and its memory bank.

A RAM's CAS latency (commonly called latency) is simply the time it takes it to access a piece of information at a random location in the RAM. The lower the latency, the better. You do NOT want to increase RAM latency as this would slow down your computer significantly since RAM is involved in nearly everything that happens in a computer.

It is notable that RAM latency is different from it's speed. Its speed is measured in megahertz (MHz), while it's latency is typically a group of 4 numbers such as "5-5-5-15", or can also be shortened to CAS 5 (the CAS latency is always the first number in the 4-number string--the other numbers are also related to the speed of the RAM but CAS latency is more important).

Good RAM latency for games? CAS 4 is nice. The two current types of RAM are DDR2 and the newer DDR3. DDR3 has a higher speed (MHz), but has a greater latency, so it takes a high speed DDR3 RAM to match the actual performance of older DDR2 RAM. This will change as DDR3 progresses, but DDR3 is relatively new, so high end DDR2 (in the 1066 MHz or greater speed range) is your best bet if you were going to buy a gaming computer today.

What they said, plus the lower the number the better! It depends on the ram 'stick', Sdram latency is considered real good, if it's CL2, but the higher the MHz speed,(like in DDR, DDR2), the ram Latency timings go up. Sound like Greek?<(no offense meant to anyone, just an old sayin', you know we love ya'!) See these webpage's for more, easy to understand info:

it is going to be magnificent. Latency does impact conventional overall performance, yet not very plenty. Oh, and you will greater desirable smart determine you're relatively doing something that'll use 16GB of RAM, or you're heavily pissing you cash away.
