Well there's good news and bad news.

The Optiplex GX620 has a PCI-Express x16 slot, which is good. That means you can theoretically install any PCI-E x16 card. The bad news is the power supply- the factory psu is only 280 watts, which is too low for most cards with decent gaming performance. Of course you've got an older processor too, but in all likelihood the best card you can install will be a Radeon HD 4650 or GeForce GT220 (which are faster than the Radeon HD 5450). Either of those cards would be a tremendous upgrade from your Intel graphics.

Don't worry about the version numbers being 2.0 or 2.1, that doesn't matter. All PCI-Express x16 cards work in all PCI-Express x16 slots. You just can't fit an x16 card into a shorter x1 slot.

If you had a 300 watt power supply, then faster cards like the GeForce GT240 and Radeon HD 5570 would be recommended. You could still give them a try- they might work, there's just no guarantee.

On older Dell computers like your Optiplex and some Dimensions, the power supply is proprietary. You cannot replace it with a regular off-the-shelf ATX power supply.

I have a Dell Optiplex GX620 myself, and I currently have a HD4670 in there, it's quite good considering the processor I have.

I personally would suggest a graphics card around there as the processor in these things are quite slow (I've got a pentium D 3.2GHz) and my graphics card finds it easy when gaming compared to my processor which stays at around 90% on average.

The power supply I've got is 450 Watts, so I don't know what the other answer was talking about because it should be fine as mine is stock. I have my card, 2 HDD's, DVD Drive, a MASSIVE fan/heat sink for the processor, network card (as my built in one decided to die) and everything runs fine with no lack of power. Maybe try opening it up and seeing the power supply watt number just to make sure.

You've also got to make sure that your case can fit it, as I know there isn't much room in there, getting a big card would be a problem.

So all in all, I'd say a (these are in order from worst to best) HD4650, HD4670, HD5570... or if you're into more NVIDIA; (again in order of best to worst) 9400 GT, 9600 GT, 8800 GT, 9800 GT.

If you go any better, then you're just wasting money as your processor won't be able to keep up and you'll just shorten the life of it.
