I don't know if this will work on a mac, to recover files > from BIOS you can boot portable linux mint 9 from a 2 GIG USB pen drive.

Download and install Unetbootin: http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/ software, click drop down box and download Linux mint 9 to same place on pen drive, In the unetbooting GUI top java script box select the ISO you have just downloaded>OK>reboot.

You will now have an operating system that you can boot form your USB pen to access all you files.

Boot your computer press f2, f8, f10 or f11 to go into BIOS and tell BIOS to boot from external device, save changes.

Make sure the USB pen drive is plugged in.

You will be able to access your files and save them to another device.

Here is old tech trick I have used in the past. Take the hard drive out of the computer case. Wrap the drive in plastic wrap and place in the freezer section, get the drive very cold like -10 F. Keep the drive in the freezer over night or 24 hrs would be better. Connect the drive to working computer using adapter to convert the Sata/IDE to USB and power supply to power the drive. After freezing the drive will spin up and work as you get the data off the damage drive. I have done this several times and I have save the data from the drive.

customarily, whilst a difficult disk fails, it basically "wears out" the moving factors. there is no restoration from worn bearings without a expert provider getting in touch. What a expert restoration provider will do is recreate thecontinual from the factors into yet anothercontinual. In different words, in a clean room using fact the producer did, they'll take the platters and head assembly out of yourcontinual and positioned them right into a brand newcontinual of the right same variety as you have. it rather is fairly exertions huge using instruction manual exertions AND the "clean" section wherein the artwork is accomplished. Newcontinual, your previous platters. ok, so at this factor, it ought to be attainable to envision the completed contents of yourcontinual onto a thoroughly separate newcontinual. THAT expenditures an excellent form of money using guy-hours of exertions in touch and isn't any longer something which you as an end consumer can DO. How plenty is this know-how well worth to you? this variety of information restoration provider gets rather costly, rather rapid. That reported, does thecontinual "spin up" whilst energized? once you turn the flexibility on, with your arms at thecontinual case, you ought to experience a small volume of vibration from the platter servo motor because it starts itself up; then you ought to experience the heads flow using fact thecontinual performs an inner attempt. in case you experience and hear those issues, it ought to be attainable to salvage the innovations. set up thiscontinual as a 2ndcontinual in yet another laptop. and then see what you're able to do with it. attempt to run SCANDISK or the different disk application application you have. it rather is distant, yet attainable that SCANDISK can "fix" the subject whether it rather is relating to the itemizing and document equipment on disk. No ensures. it would additionally be that the disk is basically "there" and additionally you will then reproduction off the information someplace else. it rather is well worth a attempt a minimum of...

Someone has to examine your computer. It the whole computer down, the software or just the drive? Best thing is to get a geeky friend or 2 to look at it. That's what I would do. Some just like the challenge of figuring it out. Then make a deal if it is fixable.
