I have literally had this desktop less than 24 hours and when I turned it on earlier today I received the message the CPU fan has failed. I contacted the business where I purchased it and they say they have never heard of this happening to a new computer.
It sounds like they are going to give me a hard time about taking care of this issue.
Is there ANYTHING that I could have done to cause this to happen? Are there any explanations (power surge, bad plug strip, virus etc) that could explain this problem.
This is a NEW HP Pavillion.
Please let me know what you think may have happened.
thanks

Either have them fix it, or to save a lot of trouble simply buy a cheap $6 fan of the same size and install it on the heatsink

Post who's the warrantor, HP or the biz where you purchased it. Prob both are. I'd have HP fix it.

Either way, it's their responsibility.

Their ignorance: [Never heard of it happening], isnt directly your prob, and they'r prob playing dumb to make you go away.

Dont open it up or do anything else that would void the warranty. Or even use it w/o the fan.

There's no power surge issue bc you had it plugged into a 2000 joule surge suppressor that your other pc's work on w/o probs.

And I dont think the cpu fan would be the only casuality of a surge, if a surge would affect it all.

Sometimes the motherboard returns an error and if you hit F1 on the keyboard when you see this warning, you can continue on into windows... Just make sure that your CPU fan is working...

Open the case and turn your PC on and make sure the cpu fan starts truning, if not unplug it, and return it to let them see for themselves...

make sure that the fan is properly installed on your cpu and its connected to the mobo. btw a fan is very cheap, u can buy it yourself.
