my laptop... a very nice person gave me a regular desktop computer for my kids for their schoolwork. They said that it was internet ready. when they gave it to me. I clicked to two tv's on the bottom bar of the menu and it shows its been configured for lynksis which is what I'm running my laptop on... how do I get it to work on this desktop. I would call the person that gave it to me, but I don't know them well and getting in touch with them would be difficult. Thanks so much for your input.

i take it you have a router in your household? meaning that your laptop connects to your router wirelessly? if so, and your new comp has a wireless adapter (i'm assuming so, as you mentioned linksys). try right clicking the icons (or double click), and view available networks (something like that, i don't have my wireless comps on right now), select your network, and input your wireless key, if you have it setup for passwords. it should then connect. g/l - sos

From the info you provided I'm assuming you have a wireless card in the laptop.

Then you need to click on the icon in the tray and select available wireless networks. if yours is listed then select it and then you will have to configure your security settings. The same settings as your laptop and the pass phrase.

But remember when you click on the tray icon it has to show your wireless network as a selection.

If not way may not have a wireless card in the desktop.

You can but a pci wireless card cheap and install it.

The only way to have a Desktop computer connect to a wireless signal is to install a wireless card in an available slot. It is very simple and you can purchase one for less than $50.00. The best route would be to simply plug the desktop in to your router...but if you want wireless it is card purchasing time.

You can connect your desktop with an internal PCI wireless card or a usb wireless adapter that just plugs into a usb slot.

If it shows Linksys, it may be an ethernet card for a wired connection.
