Question:
Windows event viewer - ID 56! ACPI?!?
2010-09-19 05:42:39 UTC
Hello there
Randomly my computer will completely freeze , sometimes it will start responding again about a minute later then other times it will stay frozen until i restart.
I check windows even viewer and it said :
" EVENT ID : 56 "
" Level : Error "
"Driver ACPI returned invalid ID for a child device (3)."

Is this a BIOS problem? How can i go about fixing this!

Thanks very much!

No OS or config info, so flying blind.

A Google search shows no event id 56 related to ACPI.

Open Device Manager. Verify no hardware issues present.

Open BIOS setup. Verify setting.

New hardware or software installed?

Hit the Windows Key + R and type "mscofig". There's a "Startup" tab on there. It'll show what starts up with your computer. Uncheck everything that doesn't need to start, i.e. iTunes, Adobe Updater, Google Updater, etc. Also run a virus scan, cause that's odd it takes that long to start up. Disk Cleanup and a Defrag wouldn't hurt either.
