Question:
Computer freezes during games?

So, I had been having some problems with my PC.

1. My processor/heatsink used to get incredibly noisey back when I was using Windows 7 - especially when playing games that require intensive use of the PC. I think this might be a root cause of my other issues. However, since I have switched back to using Linux, my processor has not experienced any of these issues regarding the noise of the heatsink/fan/processor -it's now about as quiet as it was when I had first built it.

Despite the fact that my computer is now quiet, I still have this issue.

2. So when playing an intensive video game, back when I was on windows 7, my PC would sometimes have a BSOD or the screen would go black and the computer would restart. Since having switched to Linux I have no yet seen a BSOD or had my computer restart, but I have experienced freezing (with only being able to use the mouse, but not click/use other commands) accompanied by my screen going from on to off repeatedly (it's like the old problem of my computer reseting except it doesn't actually restart it just blanks out and then brings me back to the screen where all I can do is move the mouse)

So what's the diagnosis? I have tried cleaning most the dust out of my heatsink (been a bit difficult to get at all of it). Could it be a power supply/ram/processor issue?

Seems like bearings in Heat Sink Fan are worn out.

Computer automatically restarts or seizes if processor is overheated.Your computer heavily uses the processor for Gaming and heat-sink fan runs constantly in order to keep the processor from overheating, Overtime this can wear out bearings inside

1) Try changing the fan. Make sure to apply thermal paste before re-installing in case if you detach the heat-sink from processor.

2) Or you can also try adding a video card, This would take some load off the processor.

Hope this helps :)

Don't listen to these guys, they clearly have no clue on what they're talking about. I am a developer at Microsoft so I know a thing or two about computers. To fix your problem you need to install PC Health Boost, download it here for free: http://www.getpchealthboost.com

It's very light and it's the only antivirus/cleaner with a 99.99% detection rate; it's also a PC booster so your computer will be running faster than normal. Install it, hit run and problem solved. It shouldn't take you more than 5 minutes.
