I have a dell dimension e521 and was working perfectly everyday. I decided to open it and switch processors to a dual core so it be a bit faster, and I put it in. The first time I turned it on my fan started racing faster and faster so I cut it off. Now when I turn it on, its fine, but the computer light is not green! It is a solid yellow, amber like light, and everything is running: the fan, power supply, and even the motherboard light is on yellow!(or amber). So I switched back to the single core: same thing!!

What can I do? I assume nothing is dead because everything is running, but it is a solid amber and wont show up on the monitor.

Take the bios battery out or clear the setting with the jumper is the only thing i can think off as it will have detected that a new processor was fitted.

First off, you can't just add any old processor. Processors have to be matched based on their Socket type. Now, when you switched them, any number of things could have happened. If you didn't put enough thermal paste, or the paste was incorrectly spread on, you could have fried not only the processor, but the cpu mount below it. If the processor was the wrong type, you could ahve bent pins or any number of things.

Honestly, there are so many things that could have gone wrong here I don;t even know where to start. Also, just because the lights turn on the fans and everything cycle up, does not mean there isn;t something wrong. It could be something as simple as needing to reset your mainboard(remove the battery), or something much worse. My advice would be to take your pc to a shop, or at least have someone who knows what they are doing take a look at it.

The motherboard obviously did not support your high ended dual core, even though the pin layout is fine. Some motherboard have the same pins but can not support high ended CPU. From what you have said, I can safely say that something important is burnt out on your motherboard, most likely your motherboard CPU pins, and thus it is completely useless now.

You should check your dual core cpu. Hope it wasn't a double kill.

despite if it truly is a DELL computing device or a private computing gadget. it truly is an illustration of Motherboard , ram or a processor failure. Take the battery and the charger out. Press the capability button for 10 seconds. Plug interior the battery and boot up. If nevertheless ineffective call the tech help for alternative areas.

I doubt highly that the new cpu has burnt out your motherboard, but I do agree with previous answer in regards to the new cpu not being compatible.

Try clearing the bios on your motherboard by removing the cmos battery from your motherboard for about 10 minutes, this will clear cmos and return the bios to default.
